What does the name "vitamin" mean?
The history of this name is interesting. It is attributed to Kazimier Funk, the Polish scientist who in the first 1900 discovereed a substance containing azote, called "amin', whom he thought very important to life '(vita' in latin). He therefore named it the "amin of vita (life)", from whcih the name "vitamina" derived.

The known vitamin so far are 13, even if some include a greater number (up to 17).
The scientists split them into 2 major groups: the ones you can dissolve in water, and so called "hydrosoluble" . and those you can dissolve in fats, called "liposoluble".
The difference is important.

the water soluble vitamins, in fact, are not stored by our organism, it is therefore necessary to introduce a certain quantity of these daily. the fat soluble vitamins, on the other hand, can be stored in the liver, and if taken in excessive quantity can cause serious harm to our health (ipervitaminosis).

This is why we shouldn't eat vitamins as if they were sweets!
